Treatment with allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT)
Treatment of allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis involves sublingual (holding allergen extract in solution or tablet form under the tongue) and subcutaneous allergen-specific immunotherapy (injecting allergen extract into the subcutaneous tissue). Sublingual immunotherapy is administered at home (except for the first dose), while subcutaneous therapy is performed in a clinic. At the start of treatment, the allergen extract is injected into the subcutaneous tissue once a week for the first two weeks, followed by maintenance treatment once a month or less frequently. The treatment lasts between 3 to 5 years.
